What is the MAP Growth Test?

The NWEA MAP Growth testing program is a computerized adaptive test that provides a clearer picture of both what students know, as well as how they are growing, compared to a traditional standardized test. At High Point Academy, we utilize the MAP programming for Reading/Language and Mathematics testing.

How is this test different from other assessments?

The MAP test is different for every student who takes it, every time they take it! If a student answers a question correctly, the next question will be more challenging. If the student answers incorrectly, the next question will be easier. This type of assessment strategy challenges top performers without overwhelming students who are performing below grade level.

How is my child scored?

After each testing period, results are delivered in the form of a RIT (Rasch Unit) score that reflects the student’s academic knowledge, skills, and abilities. Think of this score like marking height on a growth chart. The RIT score allows you to tell how “tall” your child is at various points in time and how much they have grown between one stage and other. Because of its equal-interval nature, a RIT score has the same meaning, regardless of grade level or age of the student.

How do we use your child's results?

Teachers at High Point Academy utilize your child’s RIT score results to help them plan daily instruction, monitor progress, and earmark certain subjects for remedial learning.

The MAP Family Report

Your family receive the MAP Family Report three times per year, following each of our testing periods. Information in these reports are designed specifically for families, so they are clear, understandable, and actionable. You will receive your child’s RIT score, projected proficiencies for college-entry exams, and a list of skills they are ready to begin developing.
