Elementary Curriculum
It is the belief of High Point Academy that all students should strive for greatness and are able to achieve such successes with the combination of high-quality curriculum, foundations of Christ, feelings of community and sense of well-being, and ability to engage in topics of interest and enjoyment.
Our curriculum is composed of the following components:
Core Subject Areas
The core four subjects to our students' education are English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and Inquiry, and Social Studies.

Florida State K-12 recommended standards
Standards are broken up by both subject and grade level. These standards are then utilized by the curriculum creators to ensure adherence with activities and learning lessons. For more information on the specific standards, please visit the CPALMS website, here.

Pearson and Savvas Learning
The Pearson and Savvas learning programs provide an educational system that requires minimal supplementation by our school's instructors. These solutions provide students with high-quality materials and immersive real-world examples. For more information on the specific textbooks utilized in our program, please see the following section.
English Language Arts
The Reading Street series is a comprehensive curriculum designed to help your child become interested and involved in literacy education, meet their personal academic goals, and utilize critical thinking methods to reach a deeper level of understanding of the material.

Mathematics
enVision 2.0 Mathematics is a problem-based learning experience that utilizes a research-based, approach to provide a tiered grasping of concepts and empower your child as a learner. This program features learning how to solve a problem as well as why each solution process is or is not successful.

Science and Inquiry
Interactive Science, based on the Next Generation Science Standards, provides students with a holistic experience where inquiry skills can flourish. The content of every lesson is organized using the 5E method (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) to ensure understanding.

Social Studies
The myWorld interactive social learning program uses an activity-based approach to build a strong foundation in civics, economics, geography, and history. Students will be encouraged to explore their world, expand their thinking, and build a foundation to become active, competent citizens.

Bible Education and Religious Studies

As a Christian education program, all of our students take part in Bible courses in their curriculum. Studies include character education through bible stories, chapel/worship opportunities, and reading of scripture in age-appropriate manners.

Special Subject Rotations
Special Subject Learning Rotations, or "Specials", promote exploration of individual student interests, introduction and advancement of skill sets, and strengthening of motivation, self-confidence, and desire to learn.

Physical Education
Our sports program incorporates the fundamentals of games, team spirit, sportsmanship, and cooperation in a non-competitive environment.

Spanish Language and Culture
Our language program stresses development of vocabulary and accent, as well as knowledge and appreciation of Spanish and Latin cultures.

Art and Creative Expression
To promote creative expression in our students, HPA employs art learning across multiple domains, including visual, auditory, and performance art.

STEM
Using integrative hands-on projects, students utilize skills in analysis and problem solving to explore science, technology, math, and engineering.
Project-Based Learning
Project-Based Learning, or PBL, is a teaching method that involves choosing an in-depth question that needs answering, a real-world problem to be solved, or a challenge to complete. Then students research, hypothesize, act, and revise until they believe they have solved the problem or have reached the end point of the project. One of the most amazing things about PBL is that, due to the individualized and custom nature, no two projects or learning experiences are the same, even if they begin from the same question or problem!

Some of our past Project-Based Learning plans:
-
How does an author write a book? (The Kindergarten program created their own novel from idea through publication!)
-
How can we raise money for our Fifth Grade Trip? (5th grade students fundraised through the school store and special events for almost an entire year to ensure that all of their classmates could attend the overnight graduation trip!)
-
How can we help others in our community and beyond? (Students in K-5 participated in a class competition Food Drive for our local churches, as well as Samaritan's Purse's Operation Christmas Child program to provide for those in need across the world!)
